Contributor Guidelines
Creative Tao is a collaborative storytelling project with a diverse and global group of photographers and photojournalists. Together, we aim to shine a light on the cultural and natural wonders of the world and the most pressing issues facing the planet today, alongside driving support for the most promising opportunities we have for sustainable solutions. As a featured contributor, our Editorial team will help you transform your work into world-class visual stories and to engage in the most effective ways of distributing your content to an engaged global audience.
Format & Style
We take a highly visual and personal approach to storytelling — emphasising the human characters and visceral experience of the environment or situation through engaging and evocative language, alongside carefully researched cultural and scientific background. Content on Maptia is primarily delivered in the form of image-rich, long-form articles, although we are expanding our publishing tools to include video and short-form experiences.
Topics
All stories on Maptia are organised by geographic location and topic, and the majority of featured stories will focus on one particular place, country, community, journey, or issue.
We’re looking for contributors whose work aims to do at least one of the following:
- Reveals the beauty, diversity, and hidden marvels of the natural world
- Explores the multitude of cultures and ways of life around the globe
- Captures inspiring, unusual, remarkable, or purpose-driven adventures and journeys
- Shines a light on cultural, societal, and environmental inequalities and issues
- Demonstrates the interconnectedness of human society and the natural world
- Investigates the most promising opportunities we have for sustainable solutions
- Introduces the people and organisations pioneering these solutions
In the coming months, we are particularly interested in human-scale climate change stories and in stories that give readers the opportunity to engage with and support a particular cause.
Images
Powerful visuals are at the heart of every story on Maptia. To become a featured contributor, it is essential that you have a strong and growing photographic portfolio, and each individual story we produce with you will typically feature 8-20 images. Some of our contributors are already world-renowned for their imagery, while others are emerging as the best new talent in their field. Please review our previous Editors’ Picks to see the style of photography that we feature, and contributors retain full rights and control over all of their content.
